WebAR is web-based augmented reality – opposed to application-based AR where the user needs to download and install an app to make it work. All webAR needs is any common browser; Google’s Chrome, for example. Simply point your Smartphone’s camera at a QR-Code, or click on a link, and begin the augmented reality experience immediately. It’s fast, it’s easy, and it’s accessible. You can easily try some web augmented reality (webAR) yourself on our TRY OUT page.
Allowing permission to access a device location and camera access:The web browser displays an information alert when a location-based scene is loaded so the user must explicitly accept this to allow the web browser to access their device location data. They will also need to provide permission to allow their device browser access to the camera stream. If the device has more than 1 back-facing camera they will be asked to select the camera they wish to use. If a user does not grant permission for these they will not be able to access the location-based experience.
No. Anyone with access to the web can view your webAR product if you share the URL. People don’t need to download or install any dedicated apps. It just works on any device and modern web browser.
No, that’s not our thing. ScanWebar provides easy-to-use WebAR conversion tools, AR cloud hosting and streamlined workflows for creating hyper-realistic, augmented reality content for the mobile web by converting 2D images and 3D models you already have. Our aim is to make the business of outputting AR easy to use – no web development, coding or 3D design experience is needed. That means you’ll save time and money on manual 3D modelling and start selling beautiful products faster.
ScanWebar is easy to integrate into all e-commerce platforms and content management systems (CMS). You can display 3D and Augmented Reality anywhere you want!
Yes. Although it’s important to point out that the browser technology is relatively new, so while we expect it to continue improving, there could be a variation in performance across devices. There is nothing to stop you leveraging WebAR in your projects, we just recommend that you test thoroughly before deployment – if you’re at all unsure, feel free to reach out and ask us.
WebAR experiences range from 360 degree views (gyroscope feature) where you can for example look inside a car or a building/house to using our web marker tracker to activate packaging and printed collateral with 3D elements, AR games, videos, face filters and much, much more.
We measure every active engagement in the experience, such as interactions, engagement rates and dwell time.
